The Black Berkey Primer is a very convenient accessory that is a must-have for emergency preparedness or to use with your Berkey elements where treated water is unavailable.  Rather than push water down the stem to prime the Black Berkey elements, the hand actioned Black Berkey Primer pump draws water from the outside into the center of each Black Berkey element in the direction that water will naturally flow through the filters. Once the element is completely saturated with water, it passes through the Black Berkey Primer and squirts the water out the opposite end.

When you use the Black Berkey Primer with untreated water, you eliminate the risk of getting bacteria or other pathogens from untreated water sources inside the core of the filter while priming the filter.

The Primer also makes priming your Black Berkey elements much easier at home if you have a kitchen faucet with a shower attachment or a small sink or short faucet.  Sometimes, it is difficult to create a seal between the priming button and certain faucets, causing water to spray water everywhere rather than enter into the filter stem: that is when the Black Berkey Primer comes in handy.  The flow direction of the Primer can also be reversed to empty water from Black Berkey filters prior to storing them.

The Black Berkey Primer comes standard with the Go Berkey Kit.  For all other Berkey systems, the Black Berkey Primer must be ordered separately.
